What is Pushtika?
Pushtika is a local brand name of micronutrient powder (MNP), also known as sprinkle. Micronutrients are the Vitamins and the Minerals, two of the six components of our foods, essential for our body metabolism and creating resistance against diseases. Inadequate intake of micronutrients through our regular food leads to malnutrition that affects our body, intellectual and productive capacity. Pushtika, as a food supplement, fulfils the micronutrient needs of us, particularly the children aged 6 months to 5 years, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers. |
What are the Ingredients of Pushtika?
Pushtika contains 15 essential vitamin and minerals mixed in appropriate proportions as recommended jointly by WHO/WFP/UNICEF and approved by Government of Bangladesh to meet our daily recommended nutrients intake (RNI), particularly after any calamity like cyclone, flood, tsunami, abnormal hike of food price that affect the food supply chain and expose the vulnerable sections of population to malnutrition. WFP with the support from DSM Nutritional Products, a Dutch company, WFP introduced Pushtika in Bangladesh for consumption by 160,000 mothers and children affected by the severe Cyclone Sidr in the coastal areas of the country covered by WFP Emergency Operation (EMOP). Save the Children, Proshika, ACNielson are the cooperating partners of WFP. |
How to use Pushtika ?
- Pushtika can be used by mixing with any type of food except the liquid food/drinking water.
- The whole of the Pushtika powder in the sachet, after tearing off, should be mixed well with the food after it is prepared and just before being consumed.
- The powder in the sachet should be mixed with the amount of food to be taken fully as a meal
